Frequently asked questions about health coaching
Got a question that isn't answered here? Get in touch and I'm happy to talk it through.
- Health coaching is a structured, one-to-one process where I support you to make changes to your lifestyle that improve your health and wellbeing. There's no diagnosis and no prescription. I provide structure and honest accountability; you do the actual work. Most people find it considerably easier to do that when someone's alongside them, asking the right questions and helping them make sense of what's happening.
- It tends to work well for people who know they need to make changes but aren't sure where to start, or who've tried things before that haven't lasted. It's not a quick fix and it doesn't suit everyone. The people who get the most from it tend to be ready to take some action, even when they're not yet sure what that looks like. If you're curious whether it might help, the simplest thing to do is book a free discovery call and we'll talk through it honestly.
A GP can tell you what needs to change, but they rarely have the time to help you work out how. That's what coaching is for, and the two things work well alongside each other. A fair number of my clients come to me after a GP appointment where they were told they needed to improve their lifestyle but weren't given much practical support to follow through.
I'm also a registered nurse, so I understand the clinical side of what's going on in your body. In a coaching session, though, my focus is on you as a whole person. Your life, your habits, your particular barriers, not just what shows up in your test results.
Sessions are held online via Google Meet. Your first session is 90 minutes. This is the main assessment, where we cover your health history, look at a 4-day food diary you'll complete beforehand, talk through your goals, and start working out what's going to help most.
Follow-up sessions are 30 minutes, roughly every two weeks. These are working sessions. We look at what's going well, what isn't, what's getting in the way, and what to focus on next.
- Not at all. Some clients come to me because a GP has flagged something, such as borderline blood sugar, raised blood pressure, or weight gain. Others simply feel like their health has slipped and want some support getting back on top of it. You don't need a diagnosis to get something useful from coaching.
- That's what the free discovery call is for. Once I understand where you are and what you want to achieve, we'll talk through which package is likely to suit you best. There's no pressure to decide anything on the call. It's just a conversation.
Menopause and perimenopause are areas I know particularly well. I've done specialist training on top of my nursing experience. But my coaching isn't exclusively focused on menopause. I work with women and men who want to improve their health at this stage of life, whatever that means for them.
If perimenopause is a big part of what's going on for you, it'll absolutely be part of how we work together. But it doesn't have to be the whole focus.
- Yes, though most of my clients are women. If you're a man in your 40s, 50s or 60s who wants to make changes to your health, I'm happy to have a conversation.

I can't diagnose conditions or prescribe medication; that's a job for your GP, and I'd always encourage you to stay in contact with yours. I also don't offer guaranteed outcomes, because how much progress you make depends partly on the work you put in between sessions. Real change takes longer than most people expect, and I'd rather be upfront about that than have it come as a surprise.
What I can offer is honest support, practical guidance, and a genuine interest in helping you get somewhere useful.
